National Transportation Safety Board: Enough blame to go around for Biloxi, Mississippi CSX freight train and tour bus crash

ENOUGH BLAME TO GO AROUND: NTSB members determined Tuesday that freight railroad CSX, FHWA and the city of Biloxi, Miss., had all failed to prevent a March 2017 train-bus crash at a grade crossing. NTSB staff revealed at a board meeting that the city and CSX failed to adequately communicate the dangers of the crossing to either federal regulators or the public, despite numerous incidents of vehicles getting stuck at the crossing, Stephanie reports. At least 23 “grounding” incidents occurred after CSX completed maintenance work in 2014 that elevated the crossing above ground level, NTSB said. The Main Street grade crossing where the crash happened is among several elevated crossings in Biloxi.
