Massachusetts: DOT right to take phased approach to South Coast Rail

As the co-chairs of the SouthCoast Development Partnership, a business-led collaboration focused on advancing economic development and improving the region’s quality of life, we are writing to express our support for MassDOT’s Phased Approach to the SouthCoast Rail project. It is yet another step in the right direction by MassDOT and the Baker administration on this project, enabling commuter rail service to the region by 2022.

Last week’s announcement of a newly proposed Middleborough station, is also welcomed, as it enables a one-seat 90-minute ride for commuters traveling from New Bedford and Fall River. This is a major improvement over the two to three plus hour commutes currently experienced during rush hour by our residents driving into Boston.
