It’s New Jersey Transit’s go-to excuse for canceling trains, but it’s not the whole story

For NJ Transit commuters, the initials PTC might as well stand for Potential Train Chaos.

The safety system named Positive Train Control has been blamed for canceled trains, delays, overcrowding and just about every problem on NJ Transit trains except for that spilled coffee on the 5:59. 

As workers race to install equipment on trains to meet an end-of-the-year deadline, officials announced 10 percent rail fare discounts and temporary train cuts next month. The moves are intended to ease commuter pain from a rash of trains cancelations blamed on PTC installation that has to be finished by Dec. 31, 2018.
