Glenview, Illinois Group Forms To Challenge Amtrak Hiawatha Service Rail Project

Members of a new group and village officials, who say environmental impacts of proposed railroad holding tracks in Glenview were not fully studied, want a public meeting with project planners when a second environmental assessment is completed this spring, before the plan goes to federal officials for final approval.

Village officials formally oppose the project, which would increase rail traffic running through Glenview, and add tracks where freight trains could hold. In response to the project, a group of prominent Glenview residents formed the Alliance to Control Train Impact On Neighborhoods, or ACTION, earlier this month.
