First phase of Amtrak parking lot expansion finished at Staples Mill station in Richmond, Virginia

The first phase of work to expand the cramped parking lot at Amtrak’s Staples Mill station is finished, adding 115 new spaces, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation announced Tuesday. Also ready for passengers to use is a new rear entrance off Bremner Boulevard.

The new spaces bring the total to 403 at the station, Amtrak’s busiest in the South. The rest of the $8.3 million job, which began in August of 2017, will include bike racks, taxi and ride share parking and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant parking spaces in addition to more standard parking. Phase III will include a connecting the new properties to the existing lot, which will be resurfaced.
