Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina train station to be demolished, but future of property unknown

The Amtrak station on West Cabarrus Street in downtown Raleigh will soon be a thing of the past.

By the spring, once the new Union Station is open, the existing depot will be reduced to a pile of rubble. “As soon as Amtrak moves out of it and into the new station, then it will be demolished,” says Craig Newton, N.C. Department of Transportation Rail Division Facilities Engineer.
