Cracking the management secret: How an egg relates to corporate success

Those who travel often are all too familiar with less than appetizing airline food. Leading management thinker Henry Mintzberg attributes airlines’ bad scrambled eggs to poor leadership – since the decisionmakers of the airline have not tried the food, they do not know about the quality of the customer experience. In his forthcoming book, Managing Scrambled Eggs, Mintzberg asserts that good management consists of “eating the scrambled eggs” in order to truly know the business.

Mintzberg, often accused of being a contrarian, argues that it is an unfit description because contrarians are contrary “for their own sake.” But he says he looks at what goes on and sees so much nonsense, he talks about it.
