Central Florida: SunRail stalemate tests Volusia County’s patience

Volusia County officials are tired of waiting for the train — and the next stop, if the SunRail stalemates continue, could be legal action.

County leaders have been waiting for nearly a decade for the federal funding needed to extend SunRail’s track an extra 12 miles from DeBary into DeLand — part of the original deal. They’ve been waiting more than a year for the commuter train’s governing board to vote on contract amendments the county approved last February that are intended to let taxpayers off the hook for maintaining the extra miles if that promise derails.
