Australia: Overland Adelaide-Melbourne passenger train’s days numbered after South Australian government pulls funding to Great Southern Railways

From January, the train may not come through Murray Bridge any more.

The Overland, the passenger service which has connected Adelaide and Melbourne since 1887, faces closure after the South Australian government decided to stop subsidising the service.

In a statement, operators Great Southern Rail (GSR) said subsidies from the SA and Victorian governments were what kept the Overland commercially viable.
