Amtrak northbound Crescent train derails outside Washington Union Station; no injuries reported

An Amtrak train derailed Thursday afternoon just outside Washington’s Union Station, but no injuries to crew or passengers were reported, the railroad said.

Amtrak said the lead engine of New York-bound train 20 derailed at a low speed as it approached Union Station from the south. The Crescent train, which originated in New Orleans, had 196 passengers aboard, Amtrak spokesman Jason C. Abrams said.
