Alstom unveils final Acela line model; Avelia Liberty prototype ready for testing in 2019

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Prompted by the growth of high speed service to the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak and Alstom are embarking on a historic contract to expand rail travel at speeds of up to 160 miles per hour.

According to Amtrak’s own tracking, service has grown from 2,473,921 passengers in fiscal year 2002 to 3,473,644 passengers in 2015. An average of 750,000 use the service daily.
