All Aboard Florida: Martin, Indian River counties file new lawsuit in attempt to block Brightline expansion

Martin and Indian River counties, and anti-rail-expansion group CARE FL, went back to federal court Tuesday in an effort to block phase 2 of All Aboard Florida, which would extend Brightline passenger-rail service through the Treasure Coast and Space Coast en route to Orlando.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., names the U.S. Department of Transportation and Secretary Elaine Chao, claiming federal officials failed to take a “hard look” at environmental impacts of All Aboard Florida, instead acting as “cheerleaders” for the project. In the process, according to the lawsuit, the federal government violated the National Environmental Policy Act.
