Advocates continue pushing for more passenger rail service from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the east

After more than 10 years of discussing, studying and lobbying about more passenger rail service from Pittsburgh to the east, only one thing is settled: If there is more service, it will be costly.

The push for more passenger rail service began almost immediately after Amtrak cut the Pennsylvanian from twice daily trips from Pittsburgh to New York City to once a day in 2005. Service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia has steadily increased since then, but there remains only one daily trip between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.
